Too Many Work Emails And How To Manage Them

Hello my friend, welcome back to my blog.

If you’ve connected with my website, I hope you’ve found it useful, if you’re reading the blog (my eleventh) for the first time, please do take the opportunity to look around the website while you’re here.

My Week

If like me, you are inundated with a constant barrage of emails then read on. We all have far too many emails going back and forth in the workplace and if you’re anything like me, the same applies to personal emails at home. Since the pandemic and the increase of remote teams, the number of emails has increased substantially. We may no longer have the power of two feet, where we could go and speak to a colleague in another team or department in person, and although we all still have our mobile phones and other means of communicating like MS Teams – instead we seem to have increased the number of emails we send and receive.  This can lead to a feeling of overwhelm when it’s hard to keep on top of them.  Over the years I have tried a number of strategies to help cope with them, some of which work or worked and some did not.  This week I came across an article entitled 10 Ways to Manage Your Email Inbox—According to People Who Get 100+ Emails a Day which I thought I would share with you. I’ll leave the full article for you to click through and read but here are the 10 ways in list form:

1.      Only Keep Emails Requiring Immediate Action in Your Inbox

2.     Create a “Waiting Folder” for Action-Pending Emails

3.     Make Subfolders or Labels Your New BFF

4.     Set Inbox Rules or Filters

5.     Use Your Calendar to Track Emails That Require Follow-up

6.     Don’t Let Junk Mail Languish in Your Inbox

7.     Create Templates for Your Go-To Responses

8.     Set Aside Time Blocks for Checking Email—and Stick to Them

9.     Turn Off Email Notifications

10.   Squeeze in Mindless Email Tasks During Downtime

Happy to say some of these I already do, but I’m not always as disciplined as I could be.  I hope you find some good ideas on the list to help you out too.

So on to sharing my favourite things this week.

Favourite Things

Photo of the Week

Family

I thought I’d share an image that represented the essence of family, because these last few days, I have felt or witnessed feelings of happiness, and joy, great sadness and grief, concern and worry, and pride, and the commonality has been family.

In family life, love is the oil that eases friction, the cement that binds closer together, and the music that brings harmony.
— Friedrich Nietzsche

Question of the Week

I’ll always leave you with this question, as I think it’s a nice way for us to connect.  Please do leave your answers in the comments section and I will read and reply to them.

In what ways have you connected with family recently, that have bought you joy?

Thank you for reading.  Bye for now.

Jackie
