What Small Habits Lead to Big Changes in Wellbeing?

Hi friends, it’s good to be back following a short break. I hope you have all stayed well.

My Week

Following on from my first newsletter and the last blog about intentions for the coming few months now we head toward the end of the year. Last week I turned my attention to focus on wellness, with a view to healthy eating and building up an exercise routine for myself.

This takes self-compassion, a type of kindness to oneself that puts your own needs above others.  We may be busy at work, doing that extra hour here, or there, or busy with home and family life which means we can often fall into the trap of life getting in the way of our good intentions.  I say this because by Friday, after a busy, and emotional week I found myself making up reasons for not eating well and exercising, and believe me this is not unusual for me.

This got me reflecting on what simple habits could easily slot into our lives that would have a big impact in the long run, which in turn would enable us to focus more on our goals and I came up with the following:

1.       What if we focus on setting ourselves small daily goals that would stack up and make significant changes?  These might be things like spending more time with family, or doing something small for yourself each day, for example, a short meditation practice, or spending time reading a few pages from a book.

2.     Slowing down and building in some moments throughout the day to stop and check in with ourselves.  How are we feeling? Where are we holding tension in our bodies? What are our energy levels? We often rush through our day and then it’s done and we end up tired and overwhelmed.

3.     Practicing gratitude, we have so much to be thankful for but as human beings, we can spend our time thinking about all the things that are not right or not going well.  So taking some time out either at the beginning or the end of the day can really shift us to think about all the things that are good in our lives.

Small changes bring us back into the present moment when we’re in a hurry, which enables us to focus on all the things we should appreciate.

So on to sharing my favourite things this week:
