Is the Law of Attraction and Manifesting Your Dream Life Real or Wishful Thinking? (2022)

Today I wanted to just delve a little into the subject of attraction and manifesting the things you want from life by thought and action.

My Week

I recall many years ago I was taken with the much-maligned book The Secret by Rhonda Byrne, although it was extremely popular at the time, there was always this nagging doubt that the concept of being able to manifest your wildest dreams and desires just by thinking positively and changing your thought processes was psychological mumbo jumbo and lacked credibility amongst some.

As you may know, I’m a real advocate of journalling, and practicing gratitude and mindfulness, and have been doing this for many years in different formats. I also like to set goals, do vision boards, and many other self-development tools.

Recently, I was gifted the book ‘The Source’ – by Dr. Tara Swart, Neuroscientist.  The book outlines how we can manifest what we desire, and backs it up with the science behind some of the things I have described above.  Dr. Swart talks about advances in science around neuroplasticity, which is the brain’s (source’s) capacity to continue growing and evolving in response to life experiences.

I don’t want to go into detail about the book as I’ll be doing a book review in the next week or so, however, I wanted to share a little about the actions she says are essential to continue growing as a person and creating your best life.

Step 1 – Raised Awareness – switch off your autopilot.  Essentially there is little difference to the brain between an event actually being experienced in the outside world and a strongly imagined vision of the same event – whether it is something major or an everyday event. Essentially, this is about visualising and noticing what is happening to you, exploring your relationships, and self-checking your limiting beliefs.

Step 2 – Action Board It – sometimes referred to as a vision board, this is about identifying your innermost dreams and representing them pictorially. It becomes the visual directory that will lead you to what you want.

Step 3 -Focused Attention – neuroplasticity in action - this is about presence and practicing meditation and mindfulness, in order to stay focused on what is important, and more importantly to begin a process of visualising your ‘action board’ as reality.

Step 4 – Deliberate Practice – the source comes to life by turning thought and insight into action that will help you manifest the future you dream of. One of the exercises here is to create personal affirmations.

Dr. Swart brings science and spirituality together and I personally am looking forward to deliberately working my way through the practices and exercises she recommends in the book.

Alongside this, there are some fundamentals in the book about eating to fuel the brain, the importance of good quality sleep, staying hydrated, and exercising regularly.

So on to sharing my favourite things this week:

Presence and Gratitude

A spiritual connection to ‘self’ comes from practicing presence and gratitude.

Quote of the Week

Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate
— Carl Jung

YouTube

Alongside reading the book I have also been watching some interviews by Dr. Swart and particularly recommend this one: How To Use The Law Of Attraction To MANIFEST ANYTHING In 2023 | Dr. Tara Swart Bieber - YouTube. It is long at 1 and a half hours but well worth the watch, this video also introduces you to Lewis Howes – The School of Greatness, who has some great interviews.

Question of the Week

I’m thinking about all the people in my life who are very ‘logical’ and may struggle with this, despite the science from Dr. Swart and I’m interested in hearing what your thoughts are.

Thank you for reading.  Bye for now.
